Your Feed: How To Get 90+ Sleep Scores

image

By Matt Johnson

Founder of The Feed.

The sleep experiment that changed everything, the best products from our new product showcase, and who doesn't love watermelon? I've picked out the highlights of what's happening at The Feed from the past week so you don't miss a beat.

From a game-changing sleep experiment to the best products from our showcase, there's a lot to unpack!

From a 60s Sleep Score to a Week Straight at 90

I'm a terrible sleeper and I set out on a mission to fix this by testing all the sleep products on the market. I used them for five days in a row and took days off (weekends) in between. There just seems to be so much B.S. out there of every magical potion that will help you sleep better. But, do any of them actually work?

Most seemed to miss the mark with minor or inconsistent results, but through research into ingredients and my real world testing, I found a modified version of the Huberman Sleep Protocol worked the best. I like that it is the smallest number of ingredients necessary and not the kitchen sink of random ingredients.

First, I avoided Melatonin as it makes my legs restless and I don't have trouble falling asleep, but if you do have trouble falling asleep you could always add this sparingly.

Here is what worked:

A ritual of Pillar Magnesium before bed – Most of us are deficient in magnesium and that's why this works so well, add in the ritual of drinking it each night before bed as a comforting reminder to wind down and encouragement that a good sleep score awaits me.

3 Capsules of Magtein Magnesium Threonate – I took two capsules of the Momentous Magtein. This consistently was used every night my score when over 90.

1 Capsule of L-Theanine – using the Momentous L-Theanine 200mg was really good to chill out my spinning mind.

1 Capsules of Aswhaganda – Dr. Sprouse added this to help stop the wake-up cortisol spike and I really liked it.

1 oz of Cheribundi Tart Cherry Concentrate – I took this as a shot glass after the pills. I used the regular concentrate, but you could use the one with Melatonin if you need that.

I did start with the Full Huberman Protocol via this sleep pack and for only $3 per night of sleep, I would recommend you do the same, this adds 3 more pills (Inositol and Apigenin), but over time when I removed those two ingredients I didn't notice a big difference and I like to take just what I need.

Warning: The second night in a row of 90+ sleep score I struggled to get going all morning. I talked to Dr. Sprouse and he said it is unlikely any of the ingredients caused this and there is a concept called "sleep inertia" that once your body start sleeping really well (after weeks and months of bad sleep), it wants to stay sleeping. This faded after a few days and sleep scores stayed high.

Momentous really is my go to on these products. I've come to really trust the quality of ingredients. One final word on sleep, people have all different reasons for why they struggle with sleep from stress, diet, environment (room too hot or cold), so I can't say if what works for me will 100% work for you. That said for less than $3 a night it is a low risk option to try out for a month or two with huge potential rewards.

Product Extravaganza

Our buying team put a massive product showcase this week and I tasted more gels, bars, hydrations, and protein drinks that any human should ever consume in a day. What I don't think you see his how many products we say "no" to versus "yes". My rough math is we rejected almost 80% of the products we tried as not tasting great or being undifferentiated.

Here Are My Highlights:

27:17 Magnesium Lotion – This recovery lotion has been great on my back. Made for the MMA fighter Bo Nickal who swears by it. It has Magnesium, Copper GHK-CU Peptides, Arnica. If you want a great topical recovery lotion for sore muscles, this is the one to try.

Z2 Gels (from Brazil) – These are now live and such a unique and amazing flavor profile using real fruit. The number one Gel in Brazil and the team is already recognized in the Triathlon scene. They are going to be a big player in the years to come, especially as you want more real fruit based gels.

ArchMax Run Belt – They created the stretchy run belt and then everyone copied them. The top ultra runners in the world sponsored by other brands all use these and they are rebranded with their "sponsors" logo even though they are ArchMax belts. I used one and the sizing said I should be a Medium, but I put on Large and it was very snug (so go one size up if you are in doubt). Running with my jumbo iPhone with this belt was amazing. Zero bounce. I didn't even know it was there and it was reasonably easy to get the phone out. The top is open almost all the way around so you can stuff in gels evenly.

ProMix Debloat – After all the taste testing, we all got ProMix's debloat and I was shocked how well it worked. I had never really used a debloat before and I'm going to keep testing this after hard workouts when you feel so bloated from all the gels.

Rejoy Hydration – A great balance of 1500mg of electrolytes (500mg of sodium) and no sugar. I was surprised how much I enjoyed the flavors and it was really refreshing, I've been using this all week in the office.

Built for Athletes Back Packs – Not what you would expect from us, but if there ever was a backpack made for Athletes, this is the one. They carry all your gear in organized compartments, I even have a compartment just for my nutrition and two bottles. Popular in Hyrox and becoming bigger with triathletes. I negotiated for us to be the first to have these in the U.S. in a limited edition drop.
