Taylor Knibb has completed a remarkable achievement by securing her third consecutive Ironman 70.3 World Championship title. In the 2024 championship held in Taupō, New Zealand, she delivered a dominant performance to claim the title yet again.
In Taupō, New Zealand, Knibb delivered a dominant performance, emerging from the swim in fifth place and swiftly taking the lead during the bike segment. By the end of the cycling leg, she had established a nearly five-minute advantage over her competitors and previous podium contenders.
Her cycling leg proved to be as dominant as ever…but even though she stretched the field thin, they didn’t budge from the fight. Ultimately, Knibb finished with a 1:15 lead over second-place finisher Kat Matthews as she stamped her authority on the 2024 season.
This victory caps an exceptional season for Knibb, during which she won all six of her middle-distance races, including Ironman 70.3 Oceanside in April, and all four of her T100 Triathlon World Tour events, earning her the series’ world championship title. Additionally, she claimed the United States cycling time trial national championship, qualifying her for the Olympics as a dual-sport athlete. At the Paris Olympics, despite a challenging individual performance due to a fall in the women's time trial, she secured a silver medal in the mixed relay triathlon, marking her second career Olympic medal.
Reflecting on her season, Knibb expressed gratitude and acknowledged both the highs and the disappointments, particularly regarding the Paris Olympics. She stated, "This year as a whole is hard to put into words quite yet. I’m super grateful for it and all it entailed."
As she heads into a well-deserved offseason, Knibb looks forward to preparing for the upcoming year, eager to embrace new challenges and continue her pursuit of excellence in the sport she loves.
