Per 7 scoops of this product, there is 100 grams of carbs and 400mg of sodium. Instead of comparing calories, I would compare the amount of carbs and sodium. This can vary athlete to athlete. So, I would not say that two single serving pouches are always intended to be used in each bottle.

You can drink a bottle of hydration during the same hour, however, you will want to give yourself about 5 min. in between drinking your Maurten and drinking your hydration mix. We recommend 60-80 grams of carbohydrate per hour for moderate to high intensity training and racing. This would be equivalent to 2 160 Maurten Drink Mixes in one bottle or 1 320 Drink Mix per bottle. Yes, we also recommend preparing your Maurten Drink mix in one bottle and taking an additional bottle with electrolytes to supplement when and where needed. The reason being that adding anything additional (like electrolytes or more water than 500ml) to your Maurten bottle can disrupt the hydrogel structure when consumed.

The Maurten FAQ page defines the 'salt' content as sodium chloride, which is 40% sodium. In the US, the same product displays a label with the actual sodium content (sodium, not 'salt') as 200 mg. That jives because 40% of 500 mg 'salt' in the Maurten 320 is 200 mg sodium.

Yes, however, Drink Mixes are developed to be mixed with the ratio of one sachet and 500ml of water, which creates the intended strength of the hydrogel binding. If you mix the Drink Mixes in more water than recommended you will dilute the gelling components and make hydrogel progressively weaker. This means that the hydrogel structure won’t be as strong as intended and could potentially make you more prone to gastrointestinal issues. However, mixing more than one Drink Mix with 500ml does not have the same effect. Creating a higher concentrated Maurten drink will result in a sweeter and thicker drink (more viscous/dense and the resulting hydrogel will be stronger) - we strongly advise you to practice the tolerance of a drink before implementing it in a race strategy.

Great question! This one also confused us at first. In the US, the amount of sodium from sodium alginate is calculated differently than in Europe. If you're used to USA nutrition labels, 500mg is in line with what you're used to. If you're used to European nutrition products, 200mg is in line with what you're used to.

The amount of calcium in your water depends on where you live, and exact numbers may be available from your local water treatment facility. However, if you use purified water it will have little to no calcium so if you have a higher calcium content in your water it would be a good idea to use purified water!

Are you sure you folks are correctly listing the sodium content for these packets? The nutritional information on the packets list the salt content, not sodium. Sodium is about 40% of salt by weight. I wrote to Maurtens about this to confirm and got the following reply: “Drink Mix 160 contains 167 mg sodium per serving (40 g) Drink Mix 200 contains 200 mg sodium per serving (80 g) I agree with you that it would be useful to have the sodium content given. When we report sodium as salt (which is a 2.5 higher figure) this is according to legislation for declaration of contents of food.”

I read one of the reviews that suggested the gel like consistency would not flow through a Camelbak. Do you know if the Maurten drink mix will flow readily through a Hydrapak soft flask?

Hi Josh, The trick with the Maurten Drink Mix is that it requires the exact ratio of water to drink mix in order for the hydrogel to form properly (500mL per one sachet). Too much mix and not enough water will cause a gel consistency that may clog up a Camelbak, however if you use the correct proportions you should not have a problem. That being said, it can be difficult to get those proportions correct in a Camelbak. We recommend using the Camelbak for plain water and carrying a 500mL bottle along with unopened sachets of drink mix. That way, you can simply refill the water bottle and mix in a sachet to be sure you properly form the hydrogel. Hope this helps! The Feed Team

Although the Maurten 320 is working for me during marathon training, I'm having trouble getting it fully mixed and dissolved. Any suggestions?
