Product Description

Your palms are the most efficient heat-exchange surfaces on your body. Your body is wired with specialized vascular structures in your hands — direct artery-to-vein connections called arteriovenous anastomoses (AVAs) — that are designed to offload core heat rapidly.

The Narwhals by Apex Cool Labs are a palm cooling device engineered to lower your core body temperature, accelerate heart rate recovery, and help you sustain higher-quality training or race efforts.

Cool-Not-Cold Technology – Effective palm cooling requires hitting the sweet spot of 50–60°F. Too cold and your blood vessels constrict, shutting off the heat transfer. The Narwhals use proprietary Cool-Not-Cold® packs and an insulated reservoir to maintain exactly the right temperature range for up to 2+ hours, even in hot conditions.

Heat Pipe Design for Effective Transfer – The distinctive heat pipes have 100x the thermal conductivity of copper. Combined with a passive heat pump mechanism, heat is continuously drawn away from your palms rather than building up a thermal barrier like a simple ice pack would.

Ready When You Are – Setup takes 60 seconds. Freeze the Cool-Not-Cold® packs overnight, drop them in, fill with ~75°F water to the fill line. That's it. No batteries, no charging, no moving parts. The Narwhals can be prepped hours before use and travel easily to the gym, sideline, race venue, or job site.

So How Does Palm Cooling Work?

Your palms contain specialized blood vessel structures (AVAs) that act as your body's natural radiators, allowing large volumes of blood to release heat near the skin's surface. By holding a cool, not cold, surface against your palms, you accelerate the offloading of core body heat. The Narwhals are engineered to hit the precise temperature range where this process is most effective.

How to Use Apex Cool Labs

Freeze the packs, fill with room-temp water, and go. No batteries, no charging — just effective palm cooling ready whenever you need it.

Pre-Cooling: Hold the Narwhals for 3–5 minutes before a race, event, or hard training block to build a thermal buffer and lower your starting core temperature.

Between Efforts: Use during rest periods, timeouts, or inter-set recovery — 2–3 minutes of palm contact is enough to meaningfully offload accumulated heat and accelerate heart rate recovery.

Post-Training Wind-Down: Athletes also use the Narwhals as part of a post-session downregulation routine, including before sleep after late practices or competitions.

As part of a thermoregulation strategy, they can be more effective than ice vests and cool towels at reducing core temperature. D1 strength coaches, NHL players, CrossFit athletes, and fire service professionals across the country use them for the same reason: managing heat is a performance variable, and now you can control it.

Lower Your Core Temp

Your palms are your body's most efficient radiators. Despite all the rage about ice vests and cooling towels, the Narwhals tap into your biology to pull heat out fast.

Perform Better in the Heat

Don't just survive hot conditions — thrive in them. Heat slows you down by limiting your muscles' ability to generate energy. The Narwhals actively combat that, so you can tap into more at your next event.

Recover Faster Between Efforts

2-3 minutes between sets or during timeouts is enough to drop heart rate and clear accumulated heat. More recovery = more output.

Cool-Not-Cold® Technology

Too cold shuts blood flow off. The Narwhals stay locked in the 50–60°F sweet spot for 2+ hours — automatically, with no adjustments needed.

Your palms contain specialized blood vessel structures (AVAs) that act as your body's natural radiators, allowing large volumes of blood to release heat near the skin's surface. By holding a cool — not cold — surface against your palms, you accelerate the offloading of core body heat. The Narwhals are engineered to hit the precise temperature range where this process is most effective.

If the surface is too cold (below ~50°F), your blood vessels constrict and blood flow stops — which actually shuts down the heat-transfer process. The Narwhals' Cool-Not-Cold® packs keep the device in the 50–60°F therapeutic range, where heat exchange is maximized without triggering vasoconstriction.

The Narwhals are versatile. Use them for 3–5 minutes before a race or hard effort as a pre-cooling strategy, between sets or during timeouts for inter-effort recovery, or as part of a post-training wind-down routine. Many athletes also use them to help lower arousal before sleep after late evening sessions.

The Narwhals maintain effective cooling for 2+ hours of use, even in warm conditions. Each set comes with four Cool-Not-Cold® packs so you always have a frozen set ready while the other is in use.

Freeze the Cool-Not-Cold® packs overnight. When you're ready to use them, place the packs inside the Narwhals and fill with approximately 75°F (room temperature) water to the fill line. Total setup time is about 60 seconds, and they can be prepped hours in advance.
