Spring is here, which means it's time to clear out the old and restock with the good stuff. This week at The Feed, we have some things worth paying attention to. Here's what Matt's been testing, restocking, and is excited about right now.
I spent yesterday morning restocking my garage shelves for spring. Pulling bottles out of winter bins, sorting through half-used tubs, throwing away gels from 2024, they were probably fine, but time to restock.
And I realized I should probably help you do the same thing. Starting with restocking you with new bottles!
I know I gave you our new shaker bottle last week, but we just got our summer shipment in on Race Day bottles, so we now have the 750ml version (most popular size) back in stock.
This is the super lightweight bottle I discovered in Italy. I've tried a lot of bottles. This one ruined all the others for me. The squeeze is absurd, the valve flows faster than anything else I've tested, and yes, it's dishwasher safe. Built for WorldTour racing, trusted by over half of Tour de France Teams for racing, but honestly, I use mine everywhere. Gym. Desk. Car. It's just a better bottle.
I Built a "What's New" Page
...and I'm kind of obsessed with it.
Here's something you might not know: we turn down about 90% of the products pitched to us. If something makes it onto the site, I personally signed off on it. The new What's New page is where I'll drop every new launch with my actual take on why it's there.
If you're the type who likes to try new stuff before everyone else catches on, bookmark this. It's also a great antidote for flavor fatigue. The best athletes I work with rotate constantly. This makes it easy. Check out What's New.
The Maurten Bar I Love
Recently, we shared what to do if you hate gels. The one product I forgot was the Maurten Solid 160 bar. Fixing that now.
The bar is an oat-and-rice bar, and it is stuck together with Maurten's hydrogel. Easy to chew. Really gentle on the stomach, and delicious.
Here's why I think it matters: sometimes you just want to chew something. Gels are great, but three hours in, your brain wants food. This gives you that without blowing up your fueling plan. The carb delivery is legit with 41g per bar! It plays nicely with everything else in the Maurten ecosystem.
Sunscreen Talk
...I know, but listen.
The ultimate performance enhancer is not getting too much sun exposure. The sun is your kryptonite, draining your performance. But sunscreens can be sticky, a heavy gooey cream, and stop your skin from breathing.
I was testing a sunscreen last year (we have since stopped selling it, so I won't name it). It was so thick that I had heat stroke and ended up on the pavement with uncontrollable cramps twice. I realized afterwards it was the sunscreen. It was made as a natural watersports-focused sunscreen. But if you aren't in the water, you need your body to cool, you need your pores to sweat. This suncreeen stopped this and I cooked myself.
I share how serious this was so you know that the wrong sunscreen is no joke. I ended up in a creek in Colorado to cool myself, and on the side of the lava rocks in Kona, almost needing an ambulance after collapsing off the bike.
Pelotan SPF 30 is what I use and what WorldTour teams like EF Pro Cycling use. 80 minutes sweatproof, matte finish, won't sting your eyes, won't stain your kit, super easy to apply, and doesn't leave your hands greasy. Most importantly, it lets your skin breathe. Available as a Spray (6oz $40, 4oz $30) or Roll-On (2oz $20).
And when you inevitably forget and get cooked anyway, Pelotan Aprés. Cooling aloe, menthol, and sodium hyaluronate. Designed with EF Pro Cycling. Pro tip: keep it in the fridge. Game changer. $25 for 6oz.
