What we think
Vital Proteins has a great line of collagen products for a variety of uses. Why collagen you ask? Collagen has been on the rise in the sports nutrition realm and some of its benefits include:
- It may help improve tissue and cartilage repair (especially when taken before exercise or strength training)
- It can improve gut health, which is great for athletes to make sure they are absorbing all of the nutrients they are eating
- It contains 8 of the 9 essential amino acids, giving you the nutrients you need to recover.
But gelatin? As in like, Jell-o? Yes! Most of the research done on collagen supplementation in athletes actually uses a pure form of gelatin because it’s a great source of naturally occurring collagen. Combining 10-20 grams of collagen with vitamin C can help improve tendon, ligament, joint and muscle health, especially when consumed 30-60 minutes before exercise or strength training.
Vital Protein's Beef Gelatin is a great option because it contains just one ingredient: pasture-raised grass-fed bovine hide, so you know it’s a pure and easily absorbed source of collagen. Not to mention, it is gluten free, paleo friendly, and Whole30 approved. All athletes, especially those who have experienced tendon, ligament, joint or muscle injuries, can benefit from including collagen in their daily fueling routines. This is why we love the Vital Proteins line!
Vital Proteins Beef Collagen is a super versatile product because it is flavorless. It can be dissolved in hot liquids like water, juice, tea, or broth, or create a gel in cold liquids. It can even be used as a thickener in gummies, custards, soups, stews, or sauces.
HOW WE USE IT
These single serve packets contain 10 g of collagen, which is exactly how much you need to see the injury preventing and tissue repairing benefits following a hard training session. We recommend mixing 1-2 single serve sleeves with water or some type of vitamin C rich drink (such as Nuun vitamins or Puori CX3 vitamin C + energy) and drinking 60 minutes before a training session, strength training session, or other form of activity. Or use it in the kitchen to add an extra boost of nutrients to your soups, stews, sauces, or even desserts!
