GMVS Nordic Box How To Guide

1) Ultragen: First Endurance Ultragen recovery drink

  • When: Immediately following exercise. Ideally, 30 minutes or less.
  • How often: After all exercise over 90 minutes in duration that is moderate to hard intensity.
  • Why: Immediately after exercise insulin sensitivity is at its highest and exhausted muscles are basically waiting to be flooded with nutrients. The Ultragen mix is designed to deliver the right nutrients to the right place at the right time (during the window of opportunity) to help you recover really fast and give you an edge over the competition.

2) Scratch Labs: Exercise hydration mix

  • When: Pre-workout, during workout, post-workout, or anytime that you are sweating.
  • How often: The right amount depends on not only the conditions (think temperature and humidity) and length and intensity (how long, how hard, how far) but also on the individual. One to two 500mL servings per hour is a good starting point and then experiment to see what works best for you. One way to check if you’re drinking enough is to weigh yourself before and after a workout. If you’re losing more than a 3% loss in total body weight, your performance may be suffering and you probably need to drink more.
  • Why: The prevailing thought is that as little as a 2% loss of body fluids can significantly affect aerobic performance. There are over 28 published studies demonstrating decrements in performance that show dehydration in the range of 2 to 4% of total body weight can impair performance anywhere from 7 to 44% when measured as time to exhaustion, work done, or peak exercise performance.

Energy Chews: Honey Stinger, Scratch Labs, Clif Bloks

When: Any time you’re working out for 75 minutes or longer.

How often: In general, nordic athletes will need to add in 30 - 60 grams of carbohydrates each hour that they are running, skiing, biking beyond 75 minutes. Try fueling within 15 - 30 minutes of exercise and then fueling again 15 - 30 minutes later.

Why: The idea is to keep your energy level steady and stop fatigue and hunger before it stops you. By the time you need to fuel, it may be too late. Be sure to add water.

Waffle: Honey Stinger, Untapped

When: Any time you’re working out for 75 minutes or longer.

How often: Anytime you are craving a mid-morning snack or need an extra kick to power through your afternoon workout. Be sure to add water.

Why: Maple syrup is water soluble, meaning it digests really quickly and easily. With a glycemic index rating of 54 (this ranks it below potatoes, pasta, rice, bread, honey, and table sugar) this will allow for a longer energy delivery since your not spiking your insulin.

Bars: Picky Bar, Rodeo Trail Nugget, Bonk Breaker Bites

When: Tasty snacking, 45 minutes pre-run, fueling all day adventures.

How often: One-hour pre-workout or during exercise lasting 1 hour.

Why: Sometimes you need solid food during and post workout. These bars taste great and provide all of your nutritional needs.

Outside the box Must Haves: (After you buy your box, come back and place an order for this separately as it is a 90 day supply. You will get free shipping on it)

First Endurance Multi V:

When: In order to maximize carbohydrate utilization, it's best to take Multi-V one to two hours before training or racing with your pre-exercise meal. Multi-V can be taken with breakfast, lunch or dinner, depending when you're exercising. It's important to take all three tablets all at once in order to get the required dosage of Carbogen, the patented enzyme blend in Multi-V that maximizes carbohydrate utilization.

How often: Daily

Why: Endurance Multi-V is unlike any other multivitamin available. This unparalleled formulation contains a number of special ingredients (besides vitamins and minerals) that address the unique requirements of endurance athletes. In addition to having the highest-quality, most bio-available vitamins and chelated minerals available, this special endurance formula delivers clinically effective doses of digestive enzymes that improve carbohydrate utilization and time to exhaustion, Green Tea for improved endurance capacity and fat utilization, and Zinc for enhanced muscle recovery.

It’s estimated that 30-50% of endurance athletes have depleted iron levels. When iron levels are low, less oxygen is delivered to the muscles and aerobic capacity declines. To ensure peak performance, MultiV is formulated with a highly bioavailable Iron Amino Acid Chelate that’s also gentle on the stomach.
