Peanut Butter Banana is mind blowing, but if you're not a banana fan, salted caramel is one of our best sellers.
The Feed’s Fave: Blueberry Muffin
This product is one of our favorite snacks to give us energy for a long ride or run. We like to eat one about 90 minutes before training with plenty of water or about 90 minutes into a long training session to prevent us from bonking. These are also great to have with you for a mid-day pick me up. Whether you’re at work, out hiking, or getting ready for a hard training session these bars will help you overcome that dragging, tired feeling and give you the clean burning fuel you need!
Real Food 4 Real Athletes:
GU Energy Gels have been a staple of fueling for endurance sports for the past 20 years. Created for daily training and competition, GU Energy Gel provides energy-dense calories in a portable packet to help sustain energy demands of any duration or activity. The 100-calorie packet contains carbohydrates (maltodextrin and fructose) that use non-competing pathways to help maximize carbohydrate absorption while diminishing stomach distress. Sodium, the primary electrolyte lost in sweat, aids in hydration by maintaining water balance and optimizing nutrient delivery. The branched-chain amino acids (leucine, valine, isoleucine) may reduce mental fatigue and decrease muscle damage. It is important to remember to always drink water when taking these gels, since water is used in the digestion process. Some flavors of these gels also contain caffeine to increase mental focus and decrease fatigue.
GU energy gels come in a wide variety of unique flavors so you’re sure to find one you like. Some of the Gu flavors have more caffeine than others. Caramel Macchiato, Espresso Love, and Jet Blackberry all have 40mg caffeine, while all other flavors marked with caffeine have 20mg. Peanut Butter, Strawberry Banana, Lemon Sublime, and Big Apple are the only flavors without any caffeine.
The Feed’s Fave: Vanilla Bean
Take one gel with 8 oz. of water 30-60 minutes before a training session or competition. Take one additional gel every hour of exercise, especially for training or competition lasting longer than 2 hours. As mentioned above, be sure to drink water with the gel to optimize its fuel delivery and prevent dehydration. Try these out in training first to see how your body responds to them before using them in competition.
Skratch has branched out and created their own energy chews; they call them Energy Chews. With the same focus on science and great ingredients, Skratch Labs Energy Chews use only real fruit for flavor, are loaded with sodium, are less sweet than most other chews, and utilize a specific ratio of fructose and glucose so you can get energy sooner. Skratch Labs Energy Chews have a higher moisture content which makes them less syrupy, sticky, or overly sweet. They also have a higher sodium content, about 160mg per pouch, which will help you replace those essential electrolytes lost through sweat during exercise. The blend of cane sugar and tapioca syrup better matches the ratio of transporters for glucose and fructose in the small intestine. This improves energy absorption so you can get the most out of every single Skratch Labs Energy Chews.
Skratch Labs Energy Chews don't use carnauba wax, coloring or flavoring agents, or excess ingredients that aren’t necessary. Skratch Labs Energy Chews are dipped in a sour sugarcoating to add a unique taste. They’re delicious, energizing, and the perfect chew to fuel your next workout. If you're interested in learning more about the science behind Energy Chews, click here to read a blog from Allen Lim PhD, co-founder of Skratch Labs.
Feed’s Fave: Raspberry
These are our go-to product for that mid workout boost. This product allows us to avoid bonking mid workout with out overpowering us with a sticky, overly sweet flavor.
Honey Stinger Gluten Free Waffles have become a staff favorite here at The Feed. These waffles have been great for years, but with the addition of gluten-free options, Honey Stinger has an option for everyone! The inspiration for Honey Stinger Gluten Free Waffles was imported from Belgium where Dutch riders often ate these syrupy, chewy waffles on long training rides...commonly known as Stroopwafels. Honey Stinger decided to bring the concept to American athletes, and their iconic waffle was born.
Delicious wild honey sandwiched between two thin, crispy waffle wafers is the perfect treat. They are certified USDA Organic and come in a convenient single-serve package. We often turn to these waffles when we need something lighter and a little easier to digest compared to an energy bar. These waffles have a similar nutrient profile to chews or gels, but have a chewy texture for a change of pace.
The waffles come in 5 fun flavors: Salted Caramel, Cinnamon, Chocolate Mint, Vanilla Chocolate and Wildflower Honey!
The Feed’s Fave: Organic Vanilla & Chocolate
Honey Stinger gluten free waffles are great for energy before or during a workout. If you get tired of gels and chews or have stomach issues from them, these are a great option to try. They provide the carbohydrates you need for fuel without the gluten! With a variety of flavors, you can’t go wrong. Pro tip: set one of these on top of your cup of coffee and let the steam warm it up. It’s the perfect pre morning workout combo!
Hydration is one of the most important things to focus on! Proper hydration helps with nutrient delivery, reduces risk for injury, and is necessary for muscle function. But water alone doesn’t always do the trick, so that’s where Skratch Labs Sports Hydration Mix comes in!
Developed by the scientists at Skratch Labs, this drink mix was created to give elite athletes more options than just sugary sports drinks. Conventional sports drinks contain too much sugar and not enough electrolytes, making it harder to rehydrate and fully replace what you lose when you sweat. Not to mention, the artificial flavors and colors don't do anyone any favors during exercise.
Sport Hydration is the newest formula from Skratch, now with slightly more sodium and less sugar than the previous formula. The result is a drink mix with 4% less sugar and that contains an electrolyte profile that more closely matches what is lost in sweat. This drink mix includes two different types of carbohydrate, glucose and fructose, which helps speed up fluid and fuel delivery to your working muscles during exercise.
Skratch Labs formulated this hydration mix to be easier on the digestive system and to provide some energy in addition to replacing electrolytes. Not to mention, it’s made with real fruit and is non-GMO, gluten free, dairy free, vegan, and kosher.
This is our go-to drink for a hard, long workout or race! Add one scoop or packet to 12-16 oz. of water and drink 1-2 servings per hour of hard exercise. The convenient single serve packets come in six delicious flavors, making them the perfect option to take with you wherever you go. Can’t decide which flavor to get? Try one of each to keep things interesting for your long rides, runs, or races!
Sport Hydration Drink Mix with real fruit:
If you're looking for the most innovative sports drink mix on the market, look no further! Maurten has created the newest technology in the sports nutrition world with its use of hydrogel to deliver nutrients. This revolutionary carbohydrate-rich hydration mix is widely used by the best marathoners in the world. It gently combines two crucial elements for you to use during your training: carbohydrates and electrolytes.
It contains mixed carbohydrate sources to allow for optimal energy utilization, but it also contains unique hydrogel technology that slows down the delivery of these nutrients to help prevent stomach upset. In addition, this drink mix is high in sodium, an important electrolyte for fluid and nutrient delivery.
So what is the difference between these two drink mix options?
Mix Drink Mix 160 or 320 with water, and you’ll have a liquid sports drink high in carbohydrates and sodium. The drink instantly converts to hydrogel in the acidity of the stomach, encapsulating the carbohydrates and mimicking a gel consistency. The hydrogel then enables a smooth transportation of the drink through the stomach to the intestine where the water, salt, and carbohydrates are absorbed. This product is great because it’s easy to take in during exercise, it allows you to simply drink water but still get the benefit of a chew or gel.
With Maurten Drink Mix, it is very important that you only use the exact amount of water recommended to make sure the technology works to its full potential. This product is designed to be mixed with 17 oz. (500 mL) of water that has less than 40 mg/L calcium content. Maurten is careful to say that the functionality of this ratio is key for it to work well. Also, make sure you shake well until the solution dissolves. Drink it before, during and/or after your activity.
Here is a video on how to use Maurten Drink Mix:
Here at The Feed, we know how important it is to focus on recovery nutrition. That’s why we love Fluid Recovery! This was one of our first recovery mixes at The Feed....it tastes great and it works. It contains the optimal blend of nutrients that, when taken immediately after exercise, can help you recover faster, adapt to training better, and get back to 100% quicker for that next hard session. Fluid Recovery contains a 3:1 ratio of carbs to protein to promote replenishing of energy stores and rebuilding of muscles. It contains electrolytes to help with hydration and optimal fuel and fluid delivery to tired muscles. This mix also had L-glutamine, an amino acid that may help with inflammation and immune function, both of which need special attention for athletes.
Fluid Recovery is gluten-free, lactose-free, and even has a dairy and soy free option. It comes in five tasty flavors that provide exciting alternatives to the same old chocolate and vanilla. Feed's Fave: Spicy Cayenne Apricot
We love these bars! We typically eat them several hours after a long, tough workout. They're delicious, and it's impossible to eat just one bar. They're packed with protein, so are a tasty way to recovery and refuel!
Picky Bars was born with the desire to break-away from the traditional energy bar and transition to something more nutritious and wholesome. Jesse, Lauren and Steph, owners and pro athletes, each had very specific needs that weren’t met by another bar on the market… until now. They all loved the real food bars that were out there, but felt like athletes needed a real food bar that also considered fueling for top performance. That's not to say that taste was sacrificed...these bars taste great. What's different about Picky Bars are the ingredients, as well as the 4:1 balance of carbs to protein in every bar. They're also packaged in convenient 200 calorie servings (per bar), which make building fueling strategies very easy.
We love that Picky Bar chooses to use high quality ingredients, and that's definitely the case with Picky Bars. The bars are built with stuff you already know: agave, dates, blueberries, cinnamon, natural almond butter, sea salt, sunflower seeds and more. They also come in 6 really good flavors: All-in Almond, Blueberry Boomdizzle, Cookie Doughpness, Lauren's Mega-Nuts, Need for Seed, and Smooth Caffeinator. We're going to rely on Picky Bars A LOT this summer, and we'd recommend that you give them a try as well. They're built for great taste AND performance, two things that are hard to combine in such a delicious 200 calorie pack.
Feed's Fave: Ah, Fudge Nuts!
We like to bring this trendy bar with use for after our workout. There is no need to be "picky" when it comes to selecting a flavor, they are all delicious.
