There's been a growing restlessness in the athlete community with the overly sweet sports nutrition products out there. Clif Bar has joined the revolution and has created a unique, savory, whole-food pouch for those of you who just can't stomach one more vanilla flavored gel. Using ingredients like quinoa, sunflower seed butter, carrot puree and sweet potato, Clif Bar Organic Energy Food is lower in sugar and higher in fat and carbs. At The Feed we never overlook the importance of breakfast. Most of the time we're on the go and have to grab what we can. However, the days when we find an extra few minutes in the morning, we love to heat up the griddle and make Birch Benders Pancakes. Birch Bender Pancakes are unique because they only require water, and they taste great. When you're on the go, Birch Benders are a great way to cook homemade pancakes every morning!
Feed's fave: Chocolate Chip
We've found that following the instructions on the packaging works great, provided you keep your pan at the right medium temperature. If your pan is a little on the hot side, these pancakes can stick. Oh...and we highly recommend adding butter or ghee to the pan for some extra flavor! We've also added Eden-Dried Blueberries to the mix and of course a generous pour of maple syrup!
Vega Sport Pre-Workout Energizer is one of our favorite pre-workout products. Vega brings a unique mix of fast acting brown rice syrup and slower acting coconut palm nectar as carbohydrate sources for the product. Vega Sport Pre-Workout Energizer is not sweetened for taste, but rather for function. Before exercise, your body needs functional sugars (carbohydrates) to give you a boost of energy. By pairing complementary carbohydrates—sprouted whole grain brown rice syrup and organic palm nectar your body can use both high- and low-glycemic carbohydrates for both a quick burst and slow release of energy before your workout.
Vega also adds green tea, panax ginseng, and rhodiola. Green tea is a clean caffeine source that works especially well for coffee drinkers. Together, caffeine and rhodiola help to increase immediate energy and sustain endurance. While the exact mechanism behind why caffeine supports performance is under debate, caffeine is widely accepted for its ability to increase endurance. Traditionally the herb rhodiola has been used to enhance physical endurance by increasing time to fatigue. Each serving of Vega Sport Pre-Workout Energizer contains 100mg of caffeine (from green tea and yerba maté) as well as 100mg of rhodiola.

We love these bars! We typically eat them several hours after a long, tough workout. They're delicious, and it's impossible to eat just one bar. They're packed with protein, so are a tasty way to recovery and refuel!
Fuel for Fire is simply pureed fruit plus whey protein in a convenient re-sealable pack. With relatively few but high-quality ingredients, it's easy for us to love Fuel for Fire. Each pack contains 10 grams of whey protein isolate and a few carbs from good ‘ol natural fruit. It’s a great tasting and ridiculously nutritious way to nutritious, real food, on-the-go. Since Fuel for Fire pouches are super easy to eat, we use these as a mid-afternoon on-the-go snack, or during long and low-intensity endurance activities.
Feed's Fave: Banana Cocoa
We love to slurp on this towards the end of long efforts or during short intense efforts. Also serves as a great post-work out treat due to the delicious taste and protein for repairing those tired muscles! These packs also work well as a satisfying afternoon snack.
The Probar Meal Bar is a great on-the-go meal in a wrapper. Don’t let that fool you, these bars taste great and are packed full of high quality ingredients, are non-GMO certified and have added Omega 3 & 6. We love the Probar Meal because it focuses on real ingredients that are pressed, not extruded in production. That means you’ll have an easier time eating and digesting the bar and you’ll get it’s useable energy more quickly.
At 390 calories per bar, they’re heavy. We don’t recommend eating this bar during high intensity exercise. We recommend eating the Meal Bar during longer low intensity activities as well as eating the bar in small bites over the course of 30-45 minutes with adequate water (24-32 ounces per bar consumed).
One of our favorite things about the bars are seeing the actual ingredients. In the Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip Bar you can see the whole nuts and bits of chocolate. It’s not what you expect from an energy bar.
